Catastrophic Major Medical Checklist

Does your basic health insurance coverage protect your assets and financial well being should a catastrophic illness or injury strike? Find out by asking yourself the following six questions:

  1. Does your basic health care coverage have a limit on lifetime benefits?
  2. Does your basic health care coverage cap expenses, contain internal limits, or restrict benefits per year as to what will and will not be covered?
  3. Are you responsible for payment of medical expenses should you choose to consult a non-network provider for care?
  4. Would you be responsible for expenses associated with lengthy nursing/convalescent care or custodial care in a convalescent home? (A benefit that is either not included or is limited in most basic health insurance plans.)
  5. Do you have coverage for home health care and/or private duty nursing care?
  6. Do you have protection in making clinical treatment choices your basic insurance plan may deem as an "inappropriate" treatment, including the use of prescription drugs?

If you are concerned about issues raised in any of the questions above, find out how the AICPA-sponsored Group Catastrophe Major Medical Plan can help protect you and your family by providing supplemental coverage that allows you the opportunity to make choices in your health care coverage while providing you financial protection from the out-of-pocket expenses that so often accompany a catastrophic injury or illness.
