- Register your tires by completing and returning the manufacturer’s registration form. This ensures you can be notified for inspection and replacement in the event of a recall.
- Check air pressure weekly and before long trips. Always measure the pressure when tires are cold.
- Maintain the recommended inflation pressure stated in your owner’s manual or on the label in the glove box or driver’s side door latch. Doing so will help your tires last longer and your car be more fuel-efficient, as well as prevent tire failure and serious injury.
- Check often to make sure your tires are wearing normally and have sufficient tread. It’s time to replace the tire if you can see the treadwear-warning bar – bald tires are unsafe! Hint: To operate safely, each tire’s grooves should be visible and deep enough to insert a penny at least as far as the top of Lincoln’s head.
- Make sure your wheels are balanced and aligned properly. If some spots on the tire are wearing faster than others, you could have misaligned wheels, worn shock absorbers, or other potential problems. See your mechanic as soon as possible.
- Excessive weight will strain your tires and put your safety at risks, so never overload your vehicle. You’ll find the load limits for your vehicle in your owner’s manual.
